The Trail runs 32.5 miles from the Alabama/Georgia State Line to Anniston, AL. At the state line, it joins the Silver Comet Trail (61.5 miles), creating one of the longest continuous paved rail-trails in the U.S. with future spurs planned. Built on an abandoned Seaboard Airline Railroad bed, this was Alabama's first paved rails-to-trails conversion. The entire trail is excellent, with a smooth paved surface and few major road crossings. It passes through four towns and through Jacksonville State University, and includes forest, farmlands, wetlands, streams, and mountain views. (Detailed map and photos below.)

Biking the Chief Ladiga Trail (32.5 miles)

AL/GA State Line (MM 0.0) to Borden Springs (MM 4.7)

The Esom Hill Trailhead at the eastern end is in Georgia along the Silver Comet Trail, ride 0.3 miles to Gateway Park at the state line and connection to Chief Ladiga Trail. Pleasant ride through the forest. Both Esom Hill and Borden Springs are parking only. Gateway Park has picnic tables, there is no vehicle access.

Borden Springs (MM 4.7) to Piedmont (MM 13.6)

This section includes several scenic bridges over Terrapin Creek. It crosses the Pinhoti Recreational Trail (hiking), which runs 339 miles in Alabama and Georgia. Approaching Piedmont, transitions to open fields. Trailhead is at the Eubanks Welcome Center, with parking and restrooms.

Piedmont (MM 13.6) to Jacksonville (MM 25.6)

The Jacksonville trailhead is located at a restored train depot with parking and restrooms available. The trail runs through Jacksonville State University, the only section not built on the rail bed.

Jacksonville (MM 25.6) to Weaver (MM 31.7)

Continuing easy ride, a few road crossings. New Chief Ladiga Landing trailhead under construction. Weaver City Park has parking, restrooms and picnic tables, plus playground and other recreational facilities.

Weaver (MM 31.7) to Anniston (MM 32.5)

The trail ends at Woodland Park/Michael Tucker Park (Holley Farm Road), a 6-mile extension into Anniston is planned. Parking, restrooms.
