Jekyll Island is a barrier island in Georgia's Golden Isles. Once a winter retreat for the wealthy, the island is now governed by the Jekyll Island Authority - by law, 65% of the island including parks and picnic areas must remain in a mostly natural state. The central historic district is a designated National Historic Landmark. Many hotel, restaurant and shopping options. (Detailed map and photos below.)
