Island Line Trail...

Scenic Vermont and Bike Ferry

The Island Line Trail consists of three segments (Burlington Bike Path, the Colchester Causeway, and the Allen Point Access on South Hero Island) along Lake Champlain. The highlights of our trip were the bike ferry (across a 200 foot gap where an old railroad trestle once stood), and the 2.5 mile causeway ride with beautiful views of the lake and both the Adirondack and Green Mountains. Biking on the Island Line Trail

Burlington to Causeway

At Burlington are several parks and the historical waterfront, here the trail is called the Burlington Bikeway. It's about 6 miles to the Causeway, in Colchester, VT.

Causeway and Bike Ferry

The highlight of the trip... Lake Champlain at your feet, mountain backdrop - spectacular! The Colchester Causeway runs 2.5 miles to The Cut, where the ferry then runs its 200 feet across to South Hero Island and Allen Point Access. Note: The ferry is seasonal, running Friday-Sunday in the spring and daily in the summer (check website for schedules).

Allen Point Access

After debarking the ferry, it's another 1.25 miles along Allen Point Access on South Hero Island to the trail end at Martin Road.
