Olympic Discovery Trail...

Washington State Biking

"Wow" doesn't start to describe the Olympic Peninsula, so here we'll focus on the Olympic Discovery Trail. The trail crosses the northern end of the Olympic Peninsula and portion of Olympic National Park, along SR 122 (Strait of Juan De Fuca Highway) and US 101. A coalition of volunteers and multiple jurisdictions along the route work to expand and maintain the trail. About half the route is on non-motorized trails with new sections regularly being added, the remainder runs along the road. From Elwha River to Lake Crescent is an alternate "adventure route" for mountain bikers, hikers and equestrians. (Detailed map and photos below.)

Biking Olympic Discovery Trail

Spruce Railroad Trail

This is the section of the Olympic Discovery Trail along the north shore of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Forest. Very scenic, includes several tunnels. On our visit the ride was better suited to mountain bikers, but a project is underway to pave this section (10 miles)

A few other views

On this trip we visited segments of the trail from Port Townsend to Sappho. We would need at least a couple of weeks to see the rest and all there is along this route.
